See it in action
Thanks for setting this up. Value for money and ridiculously easy to set up. Incidentally, writing this on 25 Dec. You saved our Christmas as the boys wanted their own Valheim server and this was the easiest.
Yeah cool, but…
…what if we forget to shut it down?
It shuts itself down. Once the last player leaves, the server stops on its own and the meter stops with it. Right after a start there is a ~45 minute grace period so nobody gets kicked while friends are still installing the game.
…doesn’t my world disappear when the server stops?
No. Your world lives in cloud storage, not on the running machine — stopping is just switching off the hardware. I also keep a backup from the last 24 hours, and you can download a zip of everything whenever you like.
…is it really that cheap?
You are billed by the hour, and only while the server is actually running. A typical group plays a few evenings a month, which lands around $1–2. No subscription, no minimum, and credits you buy never expire.
…do my friends need to sign up?
Nope. Share the link and the password and they can join, see the connect details, and even start the server themselves when you are not around. If they feel generous, they can top up credits for the server too.
…can I bring the world we already started?
Yes. Start the server, hit Suspend, drop your save files and mods into the File Browser, then Activate. Palworld has a one-click converter for local co-op saves. In other games you typically just need to upload your local save through File Browser.
…what about crossplay, console friends, mods?
Crossplay is a toggle in the server settings for Valheim, Palworld and Project Zomboid — it is off by default, so switch it on and restart. Xbox and PS5 players then find a Palworld server through the in-game community list rather than by IP. Mods go up through the same File Browser, but Valheim needs BepInEx ticked when you create the server, as it cannot be switched on afterwards.
…we play in bursts. What if we drop it for half a year?
Then you pay nothing for half a year. A stopped server costs zero — no monthly fee keeping the lights on, and world files have no expiry date. Play hard for two weeks, disappear until next winter, press Start, and you are back in the same world exactly where you left it.
…can we have several games going at once?
As many as you like. Create a world per game — Valheim, Factorio, Palworld, whatever — and keep them all sitting there for free. You are only billed for the ones actually running, so a group that rotates between three games pays the same as a group that sticks to one.
